The Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet has run an interview with one of the women who accused Julian Assange. Aftonbladet has previously entered into an agreement with Assange, where he is to be one of their columnists. The editor of the paper has chosen to not run Assange's first op-ed, scheduled to run tomorrow, until the facts of the accusations against Assange become clearer.
In the interview, the woman states that following discussions between herself and the other woman in the case, they chose to press charges. She says: "I was the victim of sexual assault."
She strongly rejects the various conspiracy theories now all over the internet.
In the interview (see link below) the woman in her 30s (Swedish: in the 30 years age) states that she and the other woman both met with Assange during his visit in Stockholm, and that neither of them have previously met Assange or each other. The woman interviewed says that she considers herself the victim of a sexual assault, but does not consider herself to have been raped.
The other woman got in touch with her earlier this week, and told her a similar story to hers, as regards their sexual relations with Assange, but according to the woman, the account of the younger woman was "worse."
Both have left very detailed accounts of their sexual relations with Assange with the Swedish police. The woman interviewed states that "I immediately believed in the other woman's account, as I had experienced something similar." This is why they decided to go to the police.
"It is wrong to say that we were afraid of Assange and therefore didn't want to raise charges," says the woman. "He is not violent and I do not feel threatened by him."
The paper writes that both cases deal with initially consensual sex which then became sexual assault.
"The other woman wanted to report him for rape. I gave my account as a testimony to her account and to support her. We both fully vouch for the information we have stated," says the woman to Aftonbladet.
Responding to the various conspiracy theories on the net, she says: "The accusations against Assange are of course not staged by the Pentagon or anyone els. The responsibility for what happened to me and the other girl lies with a man with a skewed view of women and who can't take no for an answer."
Based upon the information received yesterday, the Swedish police chose to withdraw the warrant of arrest in absentia, but the investigations continue.
